Coffee is only extremely harmful for certain people who are genetically predisposed to such a reaction. “Caffeine is degraded by the enzyme CYP1A2, but there are people who genetically have less of this substance. This means that caffeine breaks down more slowly. For such people, caffeine can lead to the disturbances in the heart.”

There are people who have more of this enzyme than usual and they can drink coffee almost as if it were water. But toxicologists warn that nobody should drink too much coffee.
