Even the doctors cannot work without coffee. There are numerous studies about this beverage and those recent ones indicate different opinions about it – whether coffee is healthy or not? Some people see it as beverage with medicinal properties, while others see it as a poison.
Worldwide, millions of people cannot imagine beginning their day without a cup of delicious coffee! Only after the first cup of coffee they are ready to start the day and the reason for this lies not only in the fragrance and flavor of this beverage. “The caffeine in coffee stimulates the nervous system and the system encourages heartbeat,” says Kuno Gitler, pharmacologist and toxicologist from the University Clinic in Cologne.” The blood flow in the brain is being stimulated, because the supply of oxygen is higher. That’s why we feel better after drinking coffee.”
This expert has good news for coffee lovers. It may relieve mild migraine and headaches that occur due to poor circulation in the brain. In such migraine capillaries expand thus the pressure drops. “The caffeine narrows blood vessels in the brain and the blood flows faster”. However, this is not “real” medicine and coffee can help only in mild headache. Unfortunately, there is a downside if you are constantly drinking coffee. If you stop to enjoy this beverage, capillaries then expand and may cause headache as a result.
Caffeine is a poison!
It is unhealthy because it stimulates the secretion of adrenaline from the adrenal gland and because of that our body is in constant stress.
Our muscles are tense and blood sugar level is elevated, so that the energy of our body can be activated. Just like when we are in danger, our breathing and heartbeat accelerates.
When all this happens because of one cup of coffee, it comes to an overproduction of “stress hormones” and interference in the bloodstream. In other words, the pleasant morning coffee does not soothe us, but encourages the stress that will last all day.
Toxicologists add, however, one important detail to this medical fact. Coffee is only extremely harmful for certain people who are genetically predisposed to such a reaction. “Caffeine is degraded by the enzyme CYP1A2, but there are people who genetically have less of this substance. This means that caffeine breaks down more slowly. For such people, caffeine can lead to the disturbances in the heart.”
Little is healthy
There are people who have more of this enzyme than usual and they can drink coffee almost as if it were water. But toxicologists warn that nobody should drink too much coffee.
In relation to other beverages, coffee has the most written scientific studies about it and there are a greater number of those who spoke highly of the positive impact of coffee, especially in the long run. So, coffee has the ability to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and can have beneficial effect against Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
